Who Am I?

My name is Gary. I am a amateur astronomer. I first became interested in astronomy at the age of 7. This went on for a while until I found football which took over for many years. 16 Years ago, or there about, I rediscovered the passion for astronomy. I don’t know it all, in fact there’s so much more for me to learn compared to what I already know.

I set out doing outreach to be able to promote the hobby of astronomy and to be able to show people what’s above us, Stars, Galaxies, the Moon and our Sun. The amazing things that cannot be seen in some detail with the naked eye yet through Telescopes. When i first started doing outreach and when it was sunny, on my day off from work, I got permission to set up at the Garden Centre and give their customers the chance to view our sun in the safest way possible. I’ve also helped organise a couple of evening events there. The fascination of seeing the Sun, let alone the stars and much more via the telescope is a reaction that keeps me wanting to do this.

UK weather is not the best, but when it is clear, I like to be outside with my telescope, sometimes it is simply impossible, however I have access to slooh.com Telescopes based in Chile and Tenerife. They use schedule times and in the 5 minutes per slot, the views can be absolutely stunning. Outreach can be done as a 1 to 1 face to face, or via zoom using slooh.com, this is available to individuals or groups.
